Your rights
Under Article 10 of Colombia's Statutory Health Law 1751 of 2015, as a patient you have the right, among others, to:
- Receive quality, timely and safe care, with dignity and respect.
- Receive clear, timely and sufficient information about your health, treatments, their risks, alternatives and costs.
- Accept or refuse treatment after being informed, through informed consent.
- Have your clinical record kept confidential and obtain a copy of it.
- Seek a second opinion if you wish.
- Have your privacy and beliefs respected.
- Submit requests, complaints, claims and suggestions and receive a timely answer.
- Have your decision to take part or not in research or teaching activities respected.
Your responsibilities
As a patient, you should:
- Look after your health and your family's, and follow treatment instructions.
- Provide truthful, clear and complete information about your health and medical history.
- Arrive on time for appointments or give advance notice if you can't attend.
- Treat staff and other patients with respect and dignity.
- Take care of the facilities and equipment.
- Meet the payment commitments agreed in your treatment plan.
Informed consent
Before any procedure, your dentist will explain what it involves, its benefits, risks and alternatives. You may ask all the questions you need before signing and withdraw your consent whenever you choose.
